Five Letter Word announced winners of the 2018 NW String Summit Band Competition
[NORTH PLAINS, OR] — [July 20th, 2018] – Live from the Main Stage at NW String Summit, Five Letter Word was named winners of the 2018 Band Competition! From Northwest String Summit: "The NWSS Band Competition has become a highly regarded showcase for up-and-coming and well established bands alike... nearly all of our competitors have gone on to successful national touring careers."
Five Letter Word, a harmony-driven folk/Americana trio from Portland, OR, took to the stage on Friday afternoon, along with four other bands from Washington, California, Arkansas and Massachusetts. At the end of the hour, they were announced the winners. When asked about this win, Clara Baker (fiddle, guitar, vocals) commented, "It was an honor to play in the band competition alongside so many other amazing bands. We're thrilled to have won, and look forward to being back at String Summit next year."
Five Letter Word will play the Main Stage at Northwest String Summit in 2019.
Harmony-driven folk band from Portland, OR
Mix three singer-songwriters, several stringed instruments, and a variety of percussive techniques, and you get Five Letter Word. This Portland-based trio of powerful women includes Leigh Jones (guitar, percussion), Clara Baker (fiddle, guitar) and Audra Nemir (bass), blending their signature harmonies into songs from folk to bluegrass to blues and beyond.
